The shelter is empty as of 12/22/14. All animals have been placed in the care of many amazing rescue groups; some of those animals have been permanently adopted!
Stray or lost animals are from towns still contracted with HRAS are being taken to Monmouth County SPCA or, if needed to Garden State Vetererinary Hospital (overnight only) in Iselin.

HRAS turns away another adopter

HRAS vet record for Sasha aka Dutchess, the white cat who languished at the shelter with a terrible infection and subsequently died after being pulled by rescue.

Facebook post by an adopter whose dog was mixed up with another....poor record keeping and lies from HRAS...again.

Abe sat at the shelter with a severe upper respiratory infection, covered in fleas, and with a hernia. He was pulled by Homeless Animal Lifeline.

Another cat with no record...

This cat came to the shelter with 2 perfect ears. He was put up for adoption and has a mangled ear. Why?

One of 2 huskies that HRAS initially refused to be pulled by a reputable Husky rescue, for unknown reasons. The dogs were pulled after the Mayor of Aberdeen called the shelter and insisted the dogs be allowed to be pulled.

Why is is so difficult to keep records? This is a habitual issue at HRAS, but has never been improved.



HRAS does not keep track of the cats that come into the shelter. If you lost your cat in one of the 21 towns that Hemetta services, the probability is that your cat was killed at HRAS without being giving a chance to be reclaimed.
